The environmental industry is very well aware of the challenges involved in the remediation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). NASA and Scientific Specialists, Inc. (located at the University of Central Florida) have developed a revolutionary product to extract and destroy PCBs in-situ (in place). This patented product is called activated metal treatment system or AMTS, and was first developed to treat painted surfaces. TEA, Inc. was the first licensee of this technology and is currently performing several laboratory studies for clients to determine efficacy, as well as developing new formulations to treat a variety of impacted media. Although there is no silver bullet to eliminate the PCB problem nationwide, AMTS is proving to be a viable technology providing outstanding results. Laboratory and field-scale tests have demonstrated the removal of > 94% of total PCBs from various industrial paints within three weeks.

The Federal Laboratory Consortium Southeast Region has honored TEA, Inc. and Dr. Brad Droy with an Honorable Mention for the 2011 Excellence in Technology Transfer for his role in evaluating the marketability of the polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) remediation technology, Activated Metal Treatment System (AMTS), of which TEA, Inc. is a licensee. AMTS was developed and patented by NASA and scientists from the University of Central Florida.

In addition to Dr. Droy, in attendance to also receive awards for this technology at the regional conference held on February 8, 2012 in Orlando, Florida, was Dr. Jacqueline Quinn of NASA Kennedy Space Center, co-developer of the AMTS patent. Other co-developers of the patent who were not in attendance, but were awarded with the team included University of Central Florida researchers Dr. Christian Clausen and Dr. Cherie Geiger of Scientific Specialists, Inc. (SSI). NASA and SSI are joint owners of the patent for AMTS, and TEA, Inc. was the first licensee of the technology. Dr. Droy and Dr. Greg Booth of TEA, Inc. served as advisors to NASA and SSI during the development of this revolutionary product to provide input regarding utility/efficacy in the environmental remediation industry. TEA, Inc. is currently testing and developing new formulations and applications of AMTS through its products division, RemQuest.

TEA, Inc./RemQuest announces an agreement with JODER Consulting, Inc. (JODER) which establishes a vehicle through which our green and sustainable remediation products and services can be purchased through an SDVOSB to contractors working on Federal sites. This agreement offers a definite advantage to our customers when pursuing government contracts.

JODER was established by General Joe Oder, a retired U.S. Army Brigadier General, and is a certified Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), located in Destin, Florida. Gen. Oder’s background in the U.S. Army has given him the necessary project management skills and understanding of the federal marketplace to prepare and deliver products to government standards on time and within budget.

According to Gen. Oder, “the marketing agreement between JODER and TEA, Inc./RemQuest will afford the federal marketplace direct access to some of the world’s premier environmental remediation products for use at federal facilities in the United States and around the globe. Not only will we be able to help the federal government with their environmental remediation concerns, we’ll also be helping the government meet their socioeconomic goals and Executive Order 13360 which directs that at least 3 percent of all federal agencies’ contracting dollars go to businesses owned by service-disabled veteran-owned businesses. As such, coupling JODER’s strategy consultants and contracting vehicles with TEA, Inc./RemQuest’s line of green and sustainable environmental remediation products and technologies provides a common sense approach to environmental problem solving.”

For more information on this newly established alliance, contact Dr. Brad Droy at bdroy@teainconline.com or 850-231-1939.

The role of the TEA, Inc. team, led by Dr. Brad Droy, in providing environmental consulting for Motors Liquidation Company (MLC) is highlighted in the most recent issue of the Baton Rouge Business Report (July 27, 2011). The article titled An Engineering Feat covers the General Motors Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, and its Baton Rouge connection. Mr. Jim Redwine, a Baton Rouge environmental attorney, was chosen to manage the environmental liabilities for Motor’s Liquidation Company (MLC), formerly General Motors Corporation. A team of TEA, Inc. professionals worked with Mr. Redwine in the enormous task of putting together realistic feasibility plans for the cleanup of multiple MLC sites across the nation, as well as developing a green and sustainable remediation matrix to evaluate strategies to be considered. This bankruptcy is the largest and most complex in U.S. history. Mr. Redwine has cooperated with government regulators, including officials from 14 states, an American Indian tribe, the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Treasury, the Department of Labor and—last but not least—the White House to accomplish this feat in record time. TEA, Inc. was honored to contribute environmental services toward this monumental effort.
