EZVI

Emulsified Zero-Valent Iron (EZVI) brings together a proven remediation product with an innovative delivery system to treat DNAPL source areas, in place and on site. EZVI was selected as a winner of the NASA Government Invention of the Year and the NASA Commercialization Invention of the Year, as well as the 2006 Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer by the Federal Laboratory Consortium. It is a proprietary product only used by licensees, such as TEA, approved by NASA. EZVI is the single most important DNAPL remediation product developed in the last five years.

EZVI is an emulsion of nano- or micro-particle iron, surfactant, oil, and water that reductively dechlorinates halogenated hydrocarbons (e.g. PCE, TCE, CFC, VC). Because EZVI uses an emulsion to deliver reactive iron, it has the ability to mix with DNAPLs present in the subsurface environment. Thus, EZVI is a "source remediation" technology. EZVI may also aid in the development of the biogeochemical conditions that are conducive to the proliferation of naturally occurring bacterial species, which "polish" or bio-remediate the dissolved contaminant phase. This is facilitated through the production of hydrogen in conjunction with the availability of organic substrates contained as part of the emulsion.

EZVI is available in both bulk quantities (delivery via tanker truck ~ 5000 gallons) or in smaller volumes (250 gallon totes). TEA is the largest manufacturer of EZVI. To-date we have produced over 65,000 gallons of EZVI for our customers.
