TEA, Inc. and SiREM Collaborate to Treat Chlorinated Solvents Using SourceKill™ Plus, a New Combination of KB-1® Plus and Emulsified Zero-Valent Iron

Toxicological & Environmental Associates, Inc. (TEA, Inc.) and SiREM are pleased to announce their collaboration to create a new, injectable product combination that cost-effectively remediates difficult-to-treat chlorinated solvent source areas, with an emphasis on 1,2 dichloroethane (EDC) in groundwater. The product combination announced today is designed to treat EDC, as well as other difficult mixtures of halogenated organic compound source areas, including tetrachloroethene, trichloroethene, dichloroethenes, vinyl chloride, chloroethanes, chlorinated methanes and brominated organics.

This new product, SourceKill™ Plus, is a mixture of TEA’s SourceKill™, a NASA-patented emulsion of zero-valent iron, vegetable oil, surfactant, and water known as emulsified zero-valent iron or EZVI, and SiREM’s KB-1® Plus, a bacterial consortium that treats chlorinated solvents including EDC. Case studies have demonstrated the efficacy of both of these products to remediate EDC in groundwater. Together, these products provide the best combination of chemical and biological reduction to remediate chlorinated solvent source areas.

“TEA, Inc. is excited to collaborate with SiREM to create a best-value, easy-to-use in situ treatment for source contaminated groundwater by combining two proven methods of addressing recalcitrant compounds. With this combination, no halogenated source area mixture is out of reach,” said Dr. Bradley Droy, President and CEO at TEA, Inc.

“We at SiREM are thrilled to be working with TEA, Inc. on this new product design,” said Jeff Roberts Operations Manager at SiREM. “We believe that by combining the strengths of our products, we can create something truly remarkable that will benefit our customers.”

The new combination of SourceKill and KB-1 Plus is available immediately and will be marketed under a new brand name: SourceKill™ Plus.

About Toxicological & Environmental Associates, Inc. (TEA, Inc.):

TEA, Inc. provides specialty environmental remediation services and products coupled with risk-based toxicological solutions for private and governmental end users. Our unique remediation products and in situ solutions provide cost-effective treatment for a wide variety of complex environmental cleanup challenges, including source area DNAPL (e.g., PCE, TCE, EDC, CT, CS2, Freon 113), dissolved phase chlorinated organics (e.g., PCE, TCE, DCE, VC), metals, and petroleum hydrocarbons.

During our 25-year history, our professional remediation engineers and toxicologists have been tasked with remediating some of the most challenging contaminated sites in the US, including chlorinated solvent DNAPL source zones. TEA was the first licensee of the NASA-patented EZVI technology, now branded as SourceKill™.

About SiREM:

SiREM was founded in 2002 to provide the highest quality testing services and remediation products, unparalleled technical support, increased remediation effectiveness, decreased remediation costs and peace of mind during field implementation. Our focus is supporting the remediation of chlorinated solvents, metals, petroleum hydrocarbons including BTEX, emerging contaminants, and other recalcitrant contaminants in soil, sediment and groundwater. We also provide process specific wastewater treatment and process optimization evaluations for industrial treatment processes.
